It does require practice, true. And that's what makes it a lot of fun; I try to get all the practice I can every time I go ;-). However, I can't agree that casting is one of the most difficult parts of fly fishing, especially if you don't start out alone. Most folks can get the hang of it in 10 minutes or less, with help. In fly casting one throws the line, not the fly. That's what allows you to pick up and throw to another spot immediately. No reeling in.
Now catching trout... that's a whole 'nother matter.

Fly fishing requires practice during the cast. Casting is one of the most difficult part in fly fishing, its not exactly the same style of fishing as the normal wait type fishing.

Jim,

Thank you for your kind words about my art. I really did not say enough about how much your books have helped me and inspired me to "get serious" about this art form. The information you have provided has shown me ways I was unaware of in going to the next level with both techniques and tools. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment; I can't tell you how much that means to me.

Hi,

During one of my random web searches (which I do often when searching for ideas) I found your blog comment about me from last year. I wanted to say how glad I am that my books helped you with your scrimshaw art. I looked at your posted works and was deeply impressed with the quality of your work. Glad my books helped you out. Always great to make new friends in our uniquely American art form.

Well, after such a log delay in even seeing the comment, I don't feel I deserve the compliment, but I'll take it and thanks. I have put off posting for far too long. My intention has been to add a section to display my artwork; I am a scrimshander who has been in concentration mode after many years of haphazard production. Look for it soon.

Thanks, bootscoot, I just might do that. I wasn't in any particularly big hurry to add links. I think I would like to have a few more quality links.
